Front Porch Ponderings

One of the things I love most about my home is its porches. They both hold a unique purpose and somehow never mix in their identities. The front porch of my house lends itself to quiet reflection. Whether it's coffee with my husband in the morning, an afternoon spent reading my Bible, a heart-to-heart with one of my kids, a glass of wine shared with a friend, or simply watching the deer wander through the woods, the rocking chairs are always waiting. The back porch? Now that's an entirely different space. It holds the pulse of the house. That's where card games become competitions, lunch somehow turns into a buffet, cake and coffee appear without much planning, children race through endless games of hide-and-seek, and friends gather long after the sun has gone down. It's also a place where people come to share their burdens, or find acceptance. A spot that holds secrets, quiets fears and  tears are dried. The one thing our porches have in common is that they are always ready

for the love they need to hold.

Pull up a chair, front or back porch, it doesn't matter,

just relax and let the porch do its thing.
