Sometimes Healing Looks Like A Potato Patch

A potato patch, a new soap-making adventure, a few lessons learned the hard way, and one very unexpected nest of baby bunnies. Dawn shares how ordinary moments have a way of reminding us that healing doesn’t always look the way we expect. Sometimes, it’s growing quietly right under our feet.

If you stop by our house on any given day, there's a good chance you'll find us somewhere in the middle of a project.

Maybe we're out in the garden checking on the tomatoes, pulling weeds, or seeing what's ready to harvest. Or perhaps we're in the kitchen trying a new recipe, canning vegetables from the garden, or debating the best way to organize the pantry, because somehow we're always convinced there's a better system.

Truth be told, we don't always get it right.

Some recipes become family favorites, while others... well... let's just say they become a good story. Some garden experiments flourish, and others remind us that every season teaches us something.

And lately, I've added another adventure to the mix, learning how to make homemade soap.

It's a brand-new project for me, and I'm still figuring it out one batch at a time. Some days I feel like I've discovered something wonderful, while other days I learn exactly what not to do. Either way, it's been a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

Just the other day, while checking my potato patch, I found something I wasn't expecting.

A tiny nest of baby bunnies.

Everything stopped.

It reminded me that life has a way of surprising us. Sometimes those surprises bring incredible joy. Sometimes they bring heartbreak.

Like many people, I've experienced loss that changed me forever. There are days when the weight of it still catches me by surprise.

But I've also learned that healing doesn't always happen in the ways we expect.

Sometimes it begins with your hands in the dirt.

Sometimes it's watching something grow.

Sometimes it's trying something completely new.

That's really what this little corner of the internet is all about.

Not perfection. Not pretending we have all the answers.

Just two cousins sharing what we're learning, laughing at ourselves along the way, passing down family recipes, growing gardens, trying new projects, and encouraging one another through whatever season life brings.

So whether you're here to learn how to grow tomatoes, try a family recipe, follow along on my soap-making adventure, or simply enjoy a quiet moment with us, we're so glad you found us.

I don't drink coffee, I'm allergic, so let's put the kettle on instead, pour a cup of tea, and sit on the porch together for a while.

You never know what you'll discover.

Maybe it'll be the perfect tomato.

Maybe a new soap recipe.

Or maybe... a tiny family of baby bunnies hiding in the potato patch.

Welcome, friend. We're so glad you're here.
