When the Tide Says No… Go Pick Peaches

When the tide ruins your boating plans, there’s really only one sensible thing to do: sit in horrible traffic, become a professional peach inspector, and come home $115 poorer with 50 pounds of fruit. Dawn discovers that sometimes Plan B makes the better story... even if you have absolutely no idea what you're going to do with all those peaches.

We had plans.

The boat was ready.

We were ready.

The weather was beautiful.

There was just one little problem…

The tide wasn’t.

The tide was too low to get the boat out.

Now, we could’ve sat around waiting for the water to come back in.

But where’s the fun in that?

So what do you do when Mother Nature decides you’re not going boating?

Apparently…

You go peach picking.

It sounded like a great Plan B.

Get in the car, take a nice little drive, pick some peaches, enjoy the day.

Easy.

Except apparently everyone else in the state of Delaware had somewhere to be that day too because…

The traffic was HORRIBLE.

There we were, sitting in traffic on what was supposed to be our spontaneous little peach-picking adventure.

At some point I started wondering…

“Are peaches really worth all this?”

But we’d come this far.

We were getting those peaches.

Eventually, we finally made it to the orchard.

And once we got there, I’m glad we did.

There’s something about walking through an orchard and picking your own fruit that makes you completely forget you could just walk into a grocery store and buy the same thing.

Suddenly, I was a professional peach inspector.

“Nope… not that one.”

“Ohhhh, look at this one!”

“Ken, feel this peach!”

And apparently, once I start picking peaches…

I don’t know when to stop.

By the time we were finished, we’d picked about 50 pounds of peaches.

Yes.

FIFTY.

POUNDS.

Then came the bill.

At $2.30 a pound, our spontaneous little Plan B had turned into roughly…

$115 worth of peaches.

Was that too much to spend on peaches?

Maybe.

Did we actually need 50 pounds of peaches?

That’s debatable.

Could I probably have gone to the grocery store and bought peaches without sitting in horrible traffic?

Absolutely.

But let’s not ruin a perfectly good story with details.

Because really…

Can you put a price on an experience?

We started the day thinking we were going boating.

The tide said no.

So instead, we sat in traffic, wandered around an orchard, laughed, picked enough peaches to feed a small village, spent $115…

And had a pretty darn good day doing it.

Sometimes Plan B turns out to be just as much fun as Plan A.

Although now I have one teeny-tiny problem…

I have 50 pounds of peaches.

So the question is no longer:

“Are peaches worth $2.30 a pound?”

The question is…

WHAT THE HECK AM I GOING TO DO WITH 50 POUNDS OF PEACHES?!

Come Sit Awhile
